The LTPP Regions

In order to provide continuous coordination, uniform data collection, consistent data processing, and effective state and provincial highway agency cooperation, the field operations of the Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) program are divided into four regional support contracts: North Atlantic, North Central, Southern, and Western (WRSC). The regional contractors provide the link between the FHWA LTPP division office and the highway agencies. Regional coordination office contracts are vital to the success of the LTPP studies. The regional contractors are the “front line” for the program's operations, in that they have direct contact with the highway agencies and are the primary resource for data collection.

The WRSC office must be in constant contact with the highway agencies to ensure that necessary cooperation exists so that the most complete and highest quality research data is collected. Further, objective of the contract are to provide timely and uniform data collection on more than 600 LTPP test sections throughout the Western United States and Canada.

The LTPP Western Region is comprised of twelve states and two Canadian provinces. The figure on the left depicts the entire region. It includes the United States west of Kansas (not including New Mexico), extends into Canada, north to Alaska and west to Hawaii.
