Wildcat Creek Stabilization and Trail Design Project
NCE was selected by the City of San Pablo to provide civil engineering and landscape design for a trail and creek bank enhancement project for an approximately 900-foot stretch of Wildcat Creek from 23rd Street to Davis Park, located in San Pablo, California. This trail segment will provide extension of the existing trail beginning at the Bay and ending at Davis Park and will eventually provide a critical link of the San Francisco Bay and Ridge Trails. The project will also include a gateway park on an undeveloped 0.25 acre parcel and also requires a bridge section to address tight space constraints along the trail.
This portion of Wildcat Creek is currently a highly urbanized creek channel with urban elements including block retaining walls, shotcrete coated embankments, riprap, concrete rubble, other urban debris and detritus, and invasive plant species. With these urban elements, the project also included stream restoration elements including stream channel widening with removal of urban elements and re-introduction of native plants, shrubs, and trees. Slope restoration will also feature replacement of existing slope armor with vegetated geo-cells.
