Marsh Creek Road Bridge Replacement Receives National Recognition

May 25, 2020

The national American Public Works Association (APWA) selected Contra Costa County’s Marsh Creek Road Bridge Replacement Project as a 2019 Public Works Project Award winner. NCE supported the County in the delivery of the bridge project and provided environmental services in support of the replacement of the obsolete bridge near Clayton, California. NCE evaluated the shallow creek-bed sediments beneath the bridge for the potential presence of mercury and other metals associated with historical mining activities upstream of the bridge. The work also included assessments for the presence of hazardous building materials associated with the old bridge structures, along with recommendations for handling materials during demolition of the old bridge.

The Northern California (Norcal) chapter of APWA also honored the project with a 2019 award.
