Joseph “Joey” Lopes Park Project Receives 2016 Project of the Year Award

May 25, 2020

The Sacramento chapter of the APWA named the Joseph “Joey” Lopes Park Project a 2016 Project of the Year. The 4-acre park lies along Sycamore Avenue in the City of West Sacramento, California. This iconic park was envisioned as a gathering spot for a farmers market and serves as a community garden.

The park was named after hometown hero Joey Lopes. A professional boxer in the 1940s and 1950s, Lopes grew up in the neighborhood and remained a community leader after his retirement.

NCE provided civil engineering services to the City, including designs for grading and storm drainage improvements, walking paths, sidewalks, curb ramps, curb and gutter, water services for drinking fountains and landscape irrigation, and a parking area.
