Via Verdi Emergency Response Project Receives National and Local Recognition

May 25, 2020

NCE has been honored by both the national APWA and its Norcal chapter for the supporting the City of Richmond’s Via Verdi Culvert Collapse Emergency Response Project in 2012.

In April 2010, a “sinkhole” collapsed unexpectedly at Via Verdi near El Portal Drive. Part of the roadway, sidewalk, adjacent grassy areas, irrigation pipes, and fencing fell into the sinkhole area, leading the City to close the road. Via Verdi is the only street access for a community of 85 residences. The City declared a local state of emergency with implications to street infrastructure and access to nearby communities through Via Verdi, local utilities (sanitary sewer and water supply), San Pablo Creek, the upstream San Pablo Reservoir, and the nearby apartment structures.

NCE provided emergency engineering response services, restored access to residents, and watershed.
