Environmental Planner (Staff/Project Level) – CEQA/NEPA Focus Northern Nevada and Lake Tahoe Region

NCE is seeking a staff to project level Environmental Planner with experience or familiarity with CEQA and/or NEPA to join our growing Environmental Practice. This is a great opportunity to work on interdisciplinary projects and gain hands-on experience in a supportive team environment. The position offers flexibility for either an office or hybrid work schedule and will be based out of our South Lake Tahoe or Reno office locations.

The ideal candidate is eager to learn, works well both independently and collaboratively, and is excited to support environmental planning and regulatory projects. You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside scientists, engineers, planners, and resource specialists on a variety of projects for local and state agencies as well as select private clients. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.

Depending on level of experience, your role at NCE may include:

  • Supporting a variety of transportation, environmental, infrastructure, recreation, housing, and restoration projects with public (primarily local and state agencies) and private clients.
  • Supporting the development of environmental documents in compliance with CEQA, NEPA, and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA).
  • Functioning as a primary technical contributor, task manager, or project manager in the delivery of projects.
  • Negotiating and communicating with regulatory agencies on behalf of clients and projects.
  • Engaging with staff at all levels of the firm support meeting our clients’ project needs.
  • Working with colleagues and NCE’s business development professionals to market your skills and NCE’s services to an active list of clients.
  • Supporting scope and fee development for environmental review tasks on larger integrated projects, as appropriate.

Qualifications (Must Have):

  • Bachelor of Science or Arts in environmental, urban, or regional planning, natural resource science, environmental science, biology, or other related degree.
  • 1+ year of direct experience developing and delivering CEQA and/or NEPA documents.
  • Familiarity with working alongside regulatory and planning agencies to support the environmental review process.
  • Excellent technical writing and oral communication skills.

Qualifications (Nice to Have):

  • A master’s degree in environmental, urban, or regional planning, natural resource science, environmental science, biology, or other related degree.
  • Experience in private consulting.
  • Experience executing stakeholder and community engagement.
  • Experience with the TRPA code of ordinances, environmental review process, and regulatory permitting.
  • Experience with 24 CRF Part 58 reviews.
  • Experience with transportation planning (specifically Caltrans planning processes) and/or land use planning.

Working Conditions: Limited field work may be required; the primary duties of the position will occur within an office environment.

Salary range: $60,000 to $80,000
