City of Richmond │ 13th Street Complete Streets

City of Richmond

This Complete Streets project will help connect a regional bike network in west Contra Costa County with protected bike lanes.
A multi-lane arterial will be transformed into a pedestrian scaled street.
User experience will be enhanced with shortened and signalized pedestrian crossings, road diet, and added street trees to reduce the heat island effect.
Project Description

NCE and the City of Richmond will transform an urban 4-lane street into a multi-modal and multi-benefit corridor. Based on community input and in-depth analysis of existing conditions, NCE’s team of landscape architects and civil engineers lead the construction design process. NCE developed a cost-effective construction design for street reconfiguration, focusing on pedestrian safety, reducing travel speeds, creating class IV bicycle lanes, enhancing transit stops, and incorporating shade trees to create a vibrant, pedestrian-orientated streetscape. The 13th Street Complete Streets project will help complete a regional bike network in west Contra Costa County and make active transit safer and inviting in this underserved neighborhood.
