Entry Level Engineering technician
Entry Level Engineering technician

NCE is seeking an entry level Field Technicians able to work independently while in the field. The selected candidate must have the ability to collaborate with office staff, and work and communicate proficiently with City and County clients.

This position will require frequent travel and solo assignments throughout Northern California and sometimes outside of S.F. Bay Area to Southern California and Northern Nevada. (Hotel accommodations are provided while working outside of S.F. Bay Area in the field.) Although most of the job skills for pavement condition surveys will be taught on the job, NCE is seeking individuals that are reliable, hardworking, operate with a high level of integrity, energetic, efficient, and are quick learners.

The primary responsibilities of this position will generally include the following:
• Performing pavement condition surveys on city and county streets requiring measurement and identification of pavement distress
• Identification of pavement treatments, recording data, and entering data into spreadsheets and databases
• Pavement condition surveys require mostly street observations which often require walking several miles or more per day
• Frequent travel while working on solo assignments

Minimum Qualifications:
• Highschool Diploma or Equivalent
• Valid California Driver License, with a good driving record
• Good computer skills, familiar with Microsoft Excel and data entry
• Good math/estimating skills
• Must have a willingness to travel

Desirable Qualifications:
• Experience with construction and inspection
• Survey skills
• Road maintenance experience
• Database skills
• Experience working with or for Cities and Counties
• Experience with utility inspection/construction

Starting salary: $18.00 an hour (negotiable depending on additional skills and experience)

We are looking for a “leader/seller/doer” who can inspire, manage and guide all aspects of our WS&P practice in Northern California. The ideal candidate is innately strategic in their approach, an analytical problem solver, and possess the ability to put thoughts into words and actions. They are naturally goal oriented, driven to succeed, love to inspire those around them and thrive in problem solving.
The position is expected to guide strategic thinking and implementation within the marketplace, guide and mentor staff, recognize and resolve issues and provide a vision for the practice. The “leader” and manager responsibilities include mentoring and supervising staff, setting strategic direction, overseeing workload planning, developing and reporting on annual business plans and ensuring the financial viability of the practice. The “seller” element includes working collaboratively with senior technical and business development staff to identifying and securing new work and clients to sustain and grow the practice. The “doer” element of the position includes managing clients, managing projects, providing quality control and delivering technical work.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years of experience, preferably with a consulting practice, in the fields of watershed science, environmental planning, urban or regional planning, restoration ecology or engineering, water resource science or engineering, regulatory permitting, natural resource management, geology or hydrology.
