Since our foundation in 1990, NCE has grown beyond our origin as a transportation research and pavement management firm working with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Unique among civil engineering firms, we have specialized in pavement technology, including pavement design, materials, and applied research for more than three decades. In that time frame we have stayed at the forefront of pavement and material technology and gained the trust of local agencies and State DOTs to the U.S. Department of Transportation and the National Academies, to deliver realistic and economical pavement solutions while creating safe, durable, and sustainable designs.

Pavements & Materials Services

Our staff are well-versed in the traditional empirical pavement design solutions, but also understand the intricacies of pavement design and analysis and can leverage the latest methods and technologies including CalME/CalBack, and AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design™. NCE is also on the forefront of national and state studies to quantify and reduce Green House Gas emissions through environmental life cycle assessment (eLCA) and use of alternative materials in pavements, including the requirements being imposed by the Federal government, multiple states, local agencies, and industry. As a leader in this arena we can recommend, and proactively adopt and imbed into our design solutions, carbon reduction strategies.
