Senior Pavement Engineer - Reno, NV
Senior Pavement Engineer – Reno, NV
NCE has an immediate opening for a Senior Pavements Engineer in our Reno, Nevada office to lead the Nevada Region’s Pavements and Materials Group. We are a rapidly growing firm with offices in Reno, Lake Tahoe, and Las Vegas, Nevada, and Pt. Richmond, Fountain Valley, Sacramento, and Oakland, California. We work in all aspects of pavement engineering from pavement evaluation, testing and design, to pavement management systems, pavement research, and training. From research projects with the Federal Highway Administration and cost-effective engineering design applications for highways, streets, airports, and harbors to strategic solutions for environmental challenges, NCE’s foundation is of client satisfaction and responsiveness.

• M.S. Degree in Civil Engineering (with pavement emphasis).

• Ability to interpret test results and write complete reports.

The selected candidate will have experience in pavement designs utilizing non-destructive testing equipment such as the Falling Weight Deflectometer. Design experience must include knowledge of mechanistic – empirical procedures as well as AASHTO, Caltrans 356 and Federal Aviation Administration. Candidates must also be familiar with pavement management systems (StreetSaver and MicroPAVER) and have experience performing research studies. Previous leadership and staff supervisory experience is highly desired.

NCE is actively recruiting for an Associate Scientist to join our Watershed Science & Planning Practice to work with our stormwater clients. We are looking for a natural problem solver who is creative, extremely organized, proactive and task oriented. The ideal candidate is a critical thinker who thrives working in a collaborative team environment and possesses an innate ability to guide clients through compliance with Municipal, Construction and Industrial stormwater regulations. The selected candidate must be effective with both verbal and written communication and be comfortable developing and managing multiple project deadlines simultaneously.

The position will pursue, win, manage, and deliver stormwater related work with municipal, state, and private clients. Work may include regulatory negotiations, water quality sampling and analysis, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit compliance, stormwater program development, green infrastructure planning, community education and outreach, Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) compliance, storm drain mapping, and or developing and implementing Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans.

The selected candidate should possess a depth of knowledge and experience with the federal Clean Water Act, NPDES permits, state stormwater regulations (California or Nevada preferred), green stormwater infrastructure, hydromodification, water quality sampling and analysis and stormwater mapping.

The candidate should have a minimum of 12 years of experience, preferably with a consulting practice. The position will be located in NCE’s Point Richmond or Sacramento offices.

NCE is seeking an entry level Field Technicians able to work independently while in the field. The selected candidate must have the ability to collaborate with office staff; and work and communicate proficiently with City and County clients.

This position will require frequent travel and solo assignments throughout Northern California and sometimes outside of S.F. Bay Area to Southern California and Northern Nevada. (Hotel accommodations are provided while working outside of S.F. Bay Area in the field.) Although most of the job skills for pavement condition surveys will be taught on the job, NCE is seeking individuals that are reliable, hardworking, operate with a high level of integrity, energetic, efficient, and are quick learners

Entry Level Engineering Technician
Entry Level Engineering Technician

NCE is seeking an entry level Field Technician interested in working independently on public works road projects and to also collaborate with office staff. The primary responsibility associated with this position is to conduct pavement condition surveys on public roads.

This pavement condition surveying position involves working throughout Northern California and sometimes outside of SF Bay area to Southern California and Northern Nevada. Hotel accommodations are provided while working outside of S.F. Bay Area in the field. Skills for this position result in the job holder learning about roads, and most of the job skills for pavement condition surveys will be taught on the job. Due to the importance of the data collected by the field technician, NCE is seeking individuals who operate with a high level of integrity, and are energetic, efficient, and quick learners.

The primary responsibilities of this position will generally include the following:

  • Determining conditions of city/county streets and roads by identifying and recording pavement distress (failures).
  • Recording and entering data into handheld mobile devices and into spreadsheets and databases
  • Using GPS devices to locate non-pavement assets such as signs.
  • Pavement condition surveys require mostly in-person street observations which is often done by walking several miles or more per day. Surveys are also performed while driving in passenger cars and specialized testing vehicles.
  • This position requires working independently and often remotely.
