Richmond or Sacramento office. We are seeking energetic and motivated senior
level civil engineers with utility design and roadway resurfacing experience
to be a part of an organization that is young and growing. The
responsibilities will generally include managing and coordinating projects
of varying size and complexity and more specifically the following: • Manage
projects to meet (if not exceed) client requirements and maintain ongoing
positive relationships with clients • Identify and pursue new business

Nichols Consulting Engineers, Chtd. (NCE) is a
full-service civil engineering and pavement design, implementation, and

NCE’s service is tailored to client response and ranges from engineering
design applications for highways, streets, airports, and ports to
research and implementation projects with the Federal Highway

Project Pavement Engineer candidates for our San Francisco Bay Area and

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Prepare field and pavement design reports.
  • Utilize StreetSaver and Paver software for local agency pavement

NCE is looking for an experienced Technical Editor to join NCE’s diverse and motivated team. As NCE’s Technical Editor, you will collaborate with staff to produce high-quality written products for clients. The Technical Editor position will work primarily out of one of our main offices located in Northern Nevada, Northern California, or Southern California. This position is full-time and may have the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule. The Technical Editor will also serve as a company-wide resource on writing, style, critical thinking, and other document-related areas such as ADA-compliance, template creation, and Microsoft Word features. Specifically, the Technical Editor will:

  • Edit engineering and scientific reports for organization, logic, accuracy, grammar, punctuation, style, format, and consistency.
  • Coach staff at all levels to improve writing skills and report quality.
  • Train staff in proper use of Microsoft Word styles and templates; create new templates when necessary.
  • Check documents for accessibility features (e.g., Section 508) and remediate as necessary for compliance.
  • Travel periodically between California and Nevada offices to develop rapport and increase use of Technical Editor at all stages of document creation.
  • Assist in content creation, editing, and coordination for NCE’s website.
  • Educate new staff on NCE’s document processes and quality requirements.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical editing education and experience.
  • At least 5 years’ experience as a Technical Editor, preferably at an engineering/environmental consulting firm.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills as well as exceptional attention to detail.
  • Significant expertise with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat DC; ability to quickly self-teach new software and procedures.
  • Ability to both thrive in a deadline-driven environment and to self-motivate to achieve goals when time pressures relax.

NCE is seeking energetic, motivated, passionate, design focused Entry Level Landscape Architects to join our emerging landscape practice in Oakland, CA. Our work is primarily in the public realm; it involves complex multi-year endeavors ranging from healing landscapes to complete streets, multi-modal trails to campus masterplans, green infrastructure to creek restoration. Activities that a candidate may undertake are-

  • Illustrating: Render conceptual studies and illustrative plans with a range of media on multiple digital platforms. Prepare 3-D visualizations in a range of styles.
  • Designing:Participate in project ideation, prepare, and refine conceptual studies in coordination with senior staff from concept to construction documentation.

Senior Designer

Senior Designer

Do you enjoy providing design and drafting services in support of complex infrastructure and civil engineering projects? Then we may be looking for you. NCE is actively recruiting for a Senior Designer to join our Lake Tahoe office.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual with a breadth of experience in civil engineering design. You will excel working independently or within multi-disciplinary design teams of professionals from the engineering, planning, sciences, and landscape design disciplines. You are a critical thinker with the ability to apply your engineering and design skills to solve a variety of challenges and deliver projects on the ground.

Your day to day will include, but is not limited to:

  • Designing and executing layouts of complex engineering plans and maps in 2D and 3D.
  • Serving as lead designer on major projects, involving numerous complex drawings with multiple overlays to depict project data in a constantly changing environment.
  • Using creative and engineering skills to design comprehensive solutions to engineering problems.
  • Supervising work of design team to complete projects on schedule and may supervise lower-level staff.
  • Conducting field reconnaissance and directing, coordinating, and checking work done by others.
  • Attending and actively participating in client meetings to understand design needs and provide input.
  • Working from rough sketches or verbal discussion to assist engineers in the development of complex drawings through knowledge of advanced drafting techniques and media such as photography, topographic mapping, and 3-D models.
  • Following guidelines established in the NCE CAD Standards Manual; may be a member of a CAD or IT committee to advance and improve design efficiencies and develop updates to the manual, thereby creating design standards for others to follow.
  • Installing new software releases and troubleshoots software and hardware problems.

Position Qualifications:

  • High school education and advanced training or education plus twelve (12) or more years directly related civil engineering design and drafting experience which demonstrates required proficiency.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D software (latest version preferred) having performed grading and 3D modelling (vertical profiles, cross sections).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A.A. degree in drafting; graphics or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Experience working in an engineering consultancy.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of GIS and how to translate files between AutoCAD and ESRI ArcGIS.

Working Conditions: Primarily office environment, with some field work

Salary Range: $70,000-$90,000 depending on experience
